Hysterectomy by Faith (Part 2)

In God’s kind providence, He has brought a sermon to meet our need. If children are a blessing of the Lord and if we want God’s blessings then how can a hysterectomy be of faith? John Piper helps answer this question in a recent sermon.

Thank you, Father, for sending preachers by whom You meet our need for help, counsel and comfort.

  1. Dear Brother Barry,

What a heart-rending situation to be in. May I share our experience?

A few years ago, we thought hysterectomy might be necessary for my dear wife. (Her condition was not as serious or painful as Amy’s, however.) We welcome the children God sends us, and do not try to prevent them coming. So it seemed wrong to submit to hysterectomy. As we considered the matter, we came to the conclusion that there is a big difference between NOT wanting children, and so sabotaging a healthy reproductive system through surgical sterilization and WANTING children, but choosing to sterilize an unhealthy reproductive system through surgery from medical necessity. So, we determined that she would submit to the hysterectomy if her condition worsened.

Happily, my dear wife’s condition improved, the hysterecomy was cancelled, and God has sent my youngest daughter, Angela to us since then!

In conclusion, I believe that Mrs. Maxwell can have a hysterectomy by faith, for the good of her health, and go on to make disciples of many other children, as Dr. Piper taught.

May God bless both you and her through this whole process.

    Love in Christ,

    Jeff
